Rockford College to change name to Rockford University, July 1, 2013

October 2, 2012
The Rockford College Board of Trustees voted unanimously at its September 29 meeting to approve changing Rockford College’s name to Rockford University, effective July 1, 2013.

We remain committed to maintaining and nurturing our core commitment to the liberal arts as the central point around which the entire university will function. As a university, our priority will remain to employ liberal arts learning to positively and distinctly influence teaching and learning in the graduate and continuing education, and professional programs.

Furthermore, the Board of Trustees agrees with the prevailing sentiment of alumni, faculty and other stakeholders that this is a unique opportunity to openly champion the importance of liberal arts learning, and protect the institution’s historical commitment to that mission.
