We live in an age of constant scientific discovery–a world shaped by revolutionary new technologies, many of which require an understanding of biology. Biologically-related topics regularly make the news including the human genome project, global climate change, pollution, environmental concerns, species diversity, genetics and rapid advances in medicine and biotechnology. These are only some of the interests of biologists in today’s world. As human understanding of the self and the surrounding world has expanded, we have begun to understand the importance of all the organisms that share the world in which we live.

Work in the many areas that require knowledge of biology requires highly educated and curious individuals with backgrounds in the liberal arts, business, chemistry, physics, mathematics and the life sciences. (A few such career paths are agronomy, aquatic biology, ecology, wildlife management, neurobiology, medicine, microbiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, etc.)

Rockford College biology majors have the opportunity to develop an area of interest from a variety of disciplines, and one day may make significant contributions to their fields and change their world.

The Biology Department offers both the bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees in biology.
