For Gary Lubbert, director of the BSMS Program, his teaching philosophy is summed up in one word: respect. "Our students bring a great deal of life and work experience to the classroom; I admire that,” says Gary, "They are motivated, enjoy learning, and expect to participate.”

Throughout his 17 years at RU as a professor and administrator, Gary has developed close bonds with many of his students, becoming a friend to many, and even a groomsman to some. But his appreciation for the caliber of people found at RU reaches beyond the classroom. "It’s the students, my co-workers, and their belief in Rockford University and its impact. To see where we’re headed is very exciting,” he shares.

When discussing what makes being a professor worthwhile, Gary humbly reflects on those students who have expressed to him that he not only helped make them a better student, but also a better person. Says Gary, "That’s something you never forget.” That is why Gary is a Rockford University Rock Star Professor.
